As members of the New York Immigration Coalition we will be mobilizing members to attend the March for Citizenship, Care, and Climate. If youre interested in attending or learning more, contact Ben at bfgoogins@cganyc.org.
Summary:
On September 21st, as members of both the House and Senate come back from recess, thousands of immigrants and allies will converge in Washington DC to demand that Congress recognize the contributions of immigrants by ensuring a path to citizenship now, and that they reduce harm to our families by not increasing interior or border enforcement. Thousands of directly impacted individuals from across the country will gather at ICE headquarters and march to the US Capitol, where they will be joined by congressional champions to demand a path to citizenship for Essential Workers, Farm Workers, TPS holders, and immigrant youth, and an end to harsh detention and deportation policies that have continued to rip families apart and harm our communities.
One in five essential workers is an undocumented immigrant. They have made incredible sacrifices to keep all of our families safe and fed through the pandemic and long before. Essential workers have been there for all of us, now we all need to be there for them. We can no longer allow this part of our community to be considered “essential” yet “deportable”.
Action Priority: This is one of the most important days for the We Are Home coalition during the month of September. We need to be felt as a national movement as Congress returns from August Recess and prepares to enter a critical moment of reconciliation bill negotiations.
Our Goals:
Create a favorable climate and urgency for a path to citizenship, and show public support in these next critical weeks
Uplift the voices of those directly impacted and energize the base
Show unity across states on this issue
