Carroll Gardens Association, Inc. (CGA) would like to thank the TD Charitable Foundation for awarding a $2,500 grant to support its Free Computer Training Program. CGA has trained over 200 individuals in MS Office and Introduction to Computers since it started offering Free Computer Classes in April 2011. The training has been very popular and has attracted participants that included community residents, low-income individuals, the unemployed, persons with disabilities, veterans, immigrants and minorities, city workers, the youth and seniors. For FY 2014 – 2015, Vincent Peter Ty, an experienced instructor on Microsoft applications and who has a background in business management and human resources, will conduct the free computer training classes.
Under the program, Carroll Gardens Association, Inc. is offering two types of free computer training classes: 1) Introduction to Computers and 2) Microsoft Office. Introduction to Computers is specifically geared to those who have absolutely no background in computers. Participants will learn about computer operating systems, how to surf the internet, send emails, as well as an introduction to Microsoft Word. After completing the two-week program, participants will receive a Certification of Completion in Introduction to Computers.
Microsoft Office is a beginner-level course on MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. Participants will also have the opportunity to develop their workforce readiness skills through tips on resume writing, searching for jobs, etc. Upon successful completion of the six-week program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion in Microsoft Office.
For FY 2014-2015, CGA will be offering three (3) training cycles on Introduction to Computers and five (5) training cycles on Microsoft Office. The Training Schedule for 2014 – 2015 follows:
- First Training Cycle: Introduction to Computers Sept. 15 – Sept. 23, 2014

To complement the computer workforce readiness training, the Carroll Gardens Association, Inc. will invite community partners to present on jobs in their respective fields. As TD Bank continues to broaden its reach and offer resources to our community, CGA looks forward to working with TD Bank as a resource partner. In particular, TD Bank representatives could be involved by presenting to program participants information on jobs in the banking field, where to find information on TD Bank or other bank job openings, advice on what TD Bank looks for as an employer in interviews and the overall hiring process.
