SWBTU Meets with Councilmember Brad Lander

The Southwest Brooklyn Tenant Union (SWBTU) met with Councilmember Brad Lander during our last monthly meeting. Brad Lander learned more about the tenant organizing work members are doing, and shared insights about housing policy at the city- and state-level. We also discussed the role of coalitions in building power for tenants, and the importance of community organizing in this political moment. As Brad said, organizing with your neighbors is at the foundation of democracy! While we’re going to be doing a lot of resistance and damage control over the next four years, here in NYC we also have the opportunity to demonstrate what it looks like to build a just, inclusive city at the local level.
