Carroll Gardens Association, Inc. (CGA) is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring a Free Health Fair, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Oct. 5th, 2011 from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm at the CGA Training Center located at 201 Columbia Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231. The free health clinic is offered in collaboration with SUNY Downstate Medical Center (formerly Long Island College Hospital), Lutheran Hospital, Health First and WellCare.
“During these days when the economy is failing, there are many residents in our community who are not covered by health insurance due to job loss or other circumstances. Many small businesses are also not able to afford health insurance costs for their workers. Carroll Gardens Association, Inc. is offering this opportunity for community residents to avail of free health screenings, as well as provide linkages to health providers that offer free or low-cost health insurance,” stated Vilma Heramia, Executive Director of CGA. “We want to thank health providers Lutheran Hospital and SUNY Downstate Medical Center, as well as Health First and WellCare for partnering with our organization in offering free health screenings and services to residents and workers in our community during the health fair.”
Doctors, nurses, and other health practitioners will be on hand to provide blood pressure, diabetes and HIV testing, as well as health education related to HIV and STD risks. A certified health coach and holistic nutritionist will also provide education on healthy living and diet. CGA also hopes to provide free dental services during the event. The Free Health Fair is open to community residents and the general public. All ages are welcome. Free giveaways and refreshments will be available to everyone who participates.
