CGA Relaunches Free Computer Training Program

Since the organization started offering Free Computer Classes in April 2011, the training has been very popular and has attracted participants that included community residents, low-income individuals, the unemployed, persons with disabilities, veterans, immigrants and minorities, city workers, the youth and seniors. Over the next six months, Carroll Gardens Association, Inc. will be offering 5 training cycles and two levels of training: 1) Computer Basics which will run 3-weeks, and 2) Microsoft Office which will run 5-weeks. Each training cycle will be conducted 2 days a week on Mondays and Tuesdays. All training sessions will be taught by Toni Musa, a teaching professional with years of experience.

The 3-week training cycle on Computer Basics is geared towards individuals who have absolutely no background in using computers. During the training, participants will learn about computer components, how to search the internet, how to set-up an email account and send emails, as well as an introduction to Microsoft Word. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion on Computer Basics after successfully completing the 3-week program.

The 5-week training cycle on Microsoft Office will cover MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint with an emphasis on workforce readiness. Participants will also receive an introduction on the use of social media, using the internet for your next job search, resume writing, and interview skills. Four (4) training cycles will be conducted on Microsoft Office. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion on Microsoft Office after successfully completing the 5-week program.

Due to limited space, registration is offered on a first come-first served basis. Participants will be required to sign a Commitment Form, committing themselves to complete the 3 or 5-week training cycle. Please submit a completed Computer Training Registration Form to: Carroll Gardens Association, Inc., 201 Columbia Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231. You could also fax the form to (718) 243-9304.
